"I'm not really an expert on all the things about my species, but I did hear a professor talking about it once with my trainer. Dark and Psychic cancel each other out normally and make it impossible to evolve because they don't mix, but when we're upside down something happens that makes us able to evolve when leveling. I'm not really sure what though, the professor didn't know either..."
